A few months back, Jean Scott Homes decided as a team that we would like to give more back to our community. Each month, we’ll be giving a portion of our profits back to our local Oviedo community, as well to a charity chosen specifically by a member of our team. This past November and December, the chosen charity of the month has been LUNGevity, a foundation dedicated to researching lung cancer and improving the lives of all of those affected by the disease.
The vision of LUNGevity is to one day live in “a world where no one dies of lung cancer.”
Anyone can be affected by lung cancer. According to the National Cancer Institute, between 60%-65% of lung cancer diagnoses are from those who have never smoked or from those who formerly smoked, and more than 10% diagnoses are non-smokers. Lung cancer kills more than the combined amount of deaths caused by colorectal, breast, and prostate cancers.
With such an aggressive cancer, LUNGevity is working to fight against it and find solutions that will better the lives of those affected.
Those involved in the foundation are working to:
- Increase and improve the quality of life for survivors,
- Create supportive and easily accessible communities for those affected by the disease directly and indirectly,
- Pursue more efficient methods to approaching the disease and enhancing the techniques used to assess lung cancer.
